Uric acid

What it is

Uric acid is produced when the body breaks down purines (found in some foods and made naturally). It is cleared largely by the kidneys.

Why it matters

High uric acid can lead to gout and kidney stones, and often travels with metabolic issues. Diet, alcohol and some medications affect it, so it is read with the wider metabolic picture.

What “optimal” looks like

A healthy range applies and is somewhat higher in men. Values move with diet and hydration, so trends and symptoms guide interpretation more than a single reading.

This is general information, not medical advice or a diagnosis. Always discuss your results with a qualified clinician.
