Testosterone

What it is

Testosterone is the primary androgen hormone, present in everyone but at much higher levels in men. It is often measured as total testosterone, sometimes alongside SHBG to estimate the free (active) fraction.

Why it matters

Low testosterone in men can relate to fatigue, low mood, reduced muscle and libido; levels naturally decline with age. In women the healthy range is far lower and interpretation is different. It is read alongside symptoms rather than as a number alone.

What “optimal” looks like

Healthy ranges differ substantially by sex and age, and vary through the day (often highest in the morning). A single reading is usually confirmed and interpreted by a clinician in context.

This is general information, not medical advice or a diagnosis. Always discuss your results with a qualified clinician.
